Natural Fertility Management
Frachesca Naish, the developer of Natural Fertility Management has worked for 20 years in natural birth control and natural fertility. She set up the Jocelyn Centre in 1995 in Sydney, the first clinic in Australia to specialise in natural methods for fertility management, reproductive health and preconceptual care. She is a qualified naturopath, herbalist and hypnotherapist.
Janette Roberts, her co-author and business partner, has an honours degree in Pharmacy and a post graduate diploma in clinical nutrition and is the Australian secretary of the Foresight Association.

Mutual problems
Help with –
Conscious conception
Timing to avoid old egg and sperm by conceiving at the optimum time of the cycle
Welcome the child, being aware of its existence from the earliest days
Normal healthy full term pregnancy
Suffer much less (or hopefully not at all) from minor discomforts such as morning sickness, varicose veins, haemorrhoids, constipation, heartburn, stretch marks, poor memory/mood swings, increased skin pigmentation, hair loss, bleeding gums, increased susceptibility to infections, break through bleeding and fatigue
Greatly reduced incidence of more severe complications such as hyperemesis, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, toxaemia, pre-term birth and stillbirth
Short and straight forward labour
Strong and effective contractions
Perineum more inclined to stretch than tear
Quick recovery from ant grazes or tears
Enhanced bonding
Reduced need for induction, drugs, surgery, other intervention
Reduced likelihood of breech birth, post partum haemorrhage, post natal depression.
Beautiful, bright, healthy baby
Completely sound physical and mental development
Greatly reduced incidence of severe conditions such as congenital defects, even for older couples
Successful breast feeding
Improve quantity and nutrient quality of breast milk
Improve physical and mental health of child
Avoid artificial contraception
Greatly reduced incidence of conditions such as cracked nipples, mastitis, inadequate milk supply, tiredness/exhaustion
Preconception care history
In the 1930’s Dr Weston Price, a dentist, studied the effects of different dietary habits on teeth, general health and reproduction in numerous traditional societies.
He linked a change from a whole food to a refined diet with a number of health and reproductive problems physical deformities, allergies, loss of mental acuity and decrease in the efficiency of the birth process, in his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.
Further work of his contemporaries Francis Pottenger and Robert McCarrison showed that the optimal reproductive and foetal health depended on the consumption of whole and largely raw food grown in healthy soil.
They demonstrated the importance of the male in achieving the best reproductive outcomes.
Large numbers of animal studies show that when either of the parents is deficient in one, or a number of, essential nutrients, the offspring will be spontaneously aborted or will suffer from a variety of malformations.
Furthermore the nutrient deficient mother will have a difficult and lengthy labour, and the way in which she nurtures her offspring will be affected.
Foresight study published in the Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, 1995
Research has now shown that each one of the following factors alone may have adverse effects on fertility, reproductive and general health.

- Poor nutrition
- Tobacco/alcohol/drugs
- Environmental pollution

- Stress
