Our Body Our Earth
Just as we grow up and discover we can not treat our bodies the way we did in our youth, we are now growing to understand that the environment and our health are precious, irreplaceable commodities Our attitude towards them is highly intertwined: our health is a reflection of our attitude towards the earth. It is time to value this physical vehicle we live in and this miraculous planet we live on, above the value of money. Just as we can no longer put the environment last after economic growth and commercial interests, should our health suffer because of the ‘cost’ of making healthy choices. No amount of money will ever buy you your health back. The following is some simple advice to keep you and the planet healthy.
- Practice prevention, listen to your body, treat it like a temple and save yourself and the healthcare systems millions of dollars in the care of chronic degenerative conditions
- Choose to eat organic and biodynamic food. This will mean more nutrition and less pesticides and other chemicals in the food as well as less environmental impact, healthier soil, and more diverse farming practices.
- Eat less meat, choose vegetarian sources of protein. Every food has an energy cost to produce, the highest energy is used in the production of animal products (meat and dairy). Protein is an important component of a healthy diet and in fact many studies show the benefit of choosing vegetarian proteins like sprouts, legumes, whole soy products, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Increasing the number of vegetarian meals per week will reduce the impact on the environment and improve your health.
- Eat more nutrient dense foods rather than energy dense (high in fats or carbobydrates) foods such as spirulina, chorella, seaweed, sprouts, wheat grass, herbs, fruits and vegetables.
- Eat whole foods over refined (white flour, sugar, salt, packaged) foods. Eat more raw food. Choose ‘slow foods’ over ‘fast foods’ .Be grateful for the food you are consuming, cook in an attitude of love and nurturing, appreciate the energy that goes into food growing, and preparation. Fast foods are convenient but are usually energy dense and nutrient poor, and their production, marketing and packaging all have a negative impact on the environment.
- Grow your own food, recycle organic waste into compost, a worm farm, chickens or other organisms that will help convert your wastes into useful nutrients.
- Treat the cause of health problems rather than expend money and energy controlling the symptoms
- Choose natural medicine over synthetic ones where possible. Eat and drink more herbs. Pharmaceutical medications consume a lot of money in their research and development, marketing and the consequences of their misuse or over use.
- Walk further, drive less, take public transport, and use the down time to meditate, visualize and be grateful. Get outside and play with your kids instead of watching TV, surfing the net or playing computer games
- Buy local food. Less energy is lost in transport and you will eat fresh, in season food
- Unplug all electrical equipment in your bed room as the electromagnetic field interferes with your own subtle energy circuitry.
- Go to bed earlier, get up with the sun. This is the cycle of nature. Your will sleep better, and have more energy in yourself and reduce the need for lights and power at night time.
Embrace the process of becoming conscious consumers
