Our Heart Code

In celebration of valentines day, when we give our symbolic heart to someone we love, I felt it appropriate to discuss the more subtle and energetic attributes of our hearts. Science discovered the heart as a pump of our vital fluid blood in the last few hundred years. Since that time it has become well researched in regard to its physiological functioning.

However what is rarely discussed is why the heart is considered an emotional organ associated with feeling and love. For example we give heartfelt thanks, we get heart broken, an emotional story touches our hearts and when we discuss how we feel we often hold or point to our chest. The heart is a unique organ as it regulates its action via electrical impulses it generates itself without need of input from the brain. And it may be this capacity for independent electrical pulses that holds the answers to the hearts ability to retain and transmit energy or information and emotions.

Heart transplant patients report changes in personality, food preferences, habits, dance styles and dreams about the donor. A powerful example of this is bought up in the book The Hearts Code by Paul Pearsall. He is a psychoneuroimmunologist, director of a psychiatric clinic and director of behavioural medicine in a cardiac rehabilitation program. While speaking at a conference a psychiatrist bought to his attention a story of a 8 year old heart transplant patient who had received a heart of a murdered 10 year old girl. Her mother bought her in when she started screaming at night about her dreams of the man who murdered her donor, the child claimed to know who he was. After several sessions they contacted the police, and using the descriptions the little girl made, they found the murderer! He was easily convicted with the evidence provided including the time, the weapon, the place, the clothes he wore, and what the little girl who was killed said to him. Everything the heart transplant patient reported was completely accurate.

This amazing story leads us to ask what our hearts are truly capable of. It is quite possible that our heats have their own intelligence with which we perceive and react to the world around us and communicate with via an info-energetic code emitted via the hearts electrocircuitry. We may have been too brain focused in our search for the mind which may now be considered as including the heart and the self healing body.

Many studies show the power of prayer and spiritual faith to help the speedier recovery of patients, perhaps it is the heartfelt energy of prayer that is been sent out via the electrical pulses of the heart that help rebalance the person emotionally and energetically. When we have a challenge in our lives is it the heart energy of those supporting us that helps us feel stronger, to heal even sometimes against the odds. A mothers ability to sense when her child is in trouble or need may also be a result of energetic heart connections.

We could all benefit from spending more time focusing on the messages for ours hearts instead of our heads, sending out love and tuning in to others.
