Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time of intense joy, which unfortunately can be marred by health problems both small and large. Morning sickness (all day for many), constipation, haemorrhoids, varicose veins, stretch marks, heart burn are just some of the minor conditions that can be prevented or minimised through preconception care or through the use of safe and effected natural therapies during pregnancy.

Preventing and treating more serious conditions

More serious conditions such as gestational diabetes, high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia can also be prevented and sometimes treated with natural medicines. Preconception care programs sees both parents improve their physical and emotional well-being before falling pregnant, this allows a full range of natural therapies to be employed to help their bodies back to a natural balance. If a pregnancy is unexpected or parents have not prepared there are still many effective natural medicines to help, however they are more limited due to pregnancy safety issues.

Seeking Professional advice

There is a strong need to seek professional advise before taking some natural therapies during pregnancy. The importance of nutrition in pregnancy is paramount to the healthy development of the child. Folate is a B vitamin recognised as essential to prevent spina bifida and other malformations and deformities, not as well known is the role of many other vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, also essential the healthy development of the foetus. Through each trimester different health concerns and nutritional needs occur.

Improving physical health and optimum environments for healthy babies

I work with pregnant women and their partners to help improve their physical health and provide the optimum nutrition and uterine environment for a healthy baby. Preparing for labour (physically, nutritional and emotionally) is also important and should begin in the third trimester.
