Reproductive Care

My key philosophy is to promote preventative care and practices to create healthy beings. To achieve this people need to be aware of the need to do something differently. Our current lifestyle and culture is producing an increasingly unhealthy population. We hear all the time about obesity, cancer, heart disease and drug abuse. These are all chronic lifestyle induced conditions. Infertility is also a growing statistic. Our fertility is something we take for granted until we can’t fall pregnant when we try. Unfortunately many of us are unaware of the things that we do everyday that can have a cumulative negative affect not only our fertilty but our menstural experience and our general health. My job is to help people become aware of these negative influences and empower them with healthy choices and preventative practices.

Balancing the hormones

This begins with balancing the hormones to produce a regular ovulation and menstruation with minimum discomfort. Women may expereince symptoms such as pain, heavy bleeding, short cycles, emotional changes and others which might indicate an excess of oestrogen.

Excess Oestrogen

An example of excess oestrogen would be endometriosis. Excess oestrogen may occur due to poor elimination or from artifical oestrogens (xenooestrogens) entering the body. Sources of artifical hormones include: the oral contraceptive pill; hormone replacement therapy; pesticides and cleaning chemicals in the environment and our food. The solution is then to support the bodies elimination of the oestrogen, reduce the exposure to xenooestrogens and look at alternative methods of contraception such as natural contraception or natural support for menopause. As the recent womens health study showed, artifical hormones in HRT will actually increase your risk of breast and other cancers and shows little benefit for preventing heart disease. The oral contraceptive pill was not mentioned however it a similar drug and often taken in larger doses than HRT and taken for longer, so it is no wonder we are seeing such large numbers of women experience the tragedy of preventable breast cancer!

Hormone deficiency may also be an issue for our reproductive health. Under stress our body reduces its production of reproductive hormones and may even stop ovulating every month. This may lead to low progesterone levels which normally help keep our oestrogen in balance. Symptoms of low progesterone may include: breast tenderness, long cycles, PMT, fluid retention, and other oestrogen excess symptoms. Long cycles are also less fertile, so stress may then lead to infertility. In this case we would reduce stress on the body (physical and emotional/mental) support the ovary with herbs and nutrition and improve elimination of oestrogen. Women often expereince problems recovering regular periods after being on the pill, particularly after many years without any breaks. This is because the ovary has been suppressed by the artifical hormones and thinks it no longer needs to do any work. This means we must nourish and support the ovaries and other glands to stimulate their function and help create a healthy menstrual cycle again.

Righting nutritional deficiencies

Righting nutritional deficiences, detoxifying chemicals, heavy metals and pollutants, limiting exposure to electromagnetic fields, microwaves and radiowaves, eliminating infections and addresssing emotional issues are all part of overcoming fertility problems.

Preconceptual care to produce healthy sperm and egg

Preconceptual care then comes into play to create the healthiest sperm and egg possible. This ensures the child has the best genetic potential and growing environment. With this optimal situation the mother is more likely to experience a trouble free pregnancy, less chance of miscarraige, still birth and malformations, and easier and shorter labour, faster recovery and easier breast feeding. The child has a greater chance of being born healthy, happy and bright.

Natural therapies are the perfect compliment for supporting pregnancy, birth, post natal care and childhood.
